I so enjoyed working with Jessie with the interview process that I was intrigued to explore it more* and to ask her the same questions so we could get to know this remarkable women at a deeper level. And I am so happy that I did. Jessica is the founder and creator of the site A Day in the life of You which features articles that create an empowering community where women share their sources of inspiration with each other. Working with Jessie is extraordinary. Be sure to follow her and be a part of her inspiring journey. It is my privilege to share the interview with her here:
* I suggest that you do the exact same. Play with these questions and take your time with them. These questions are powerful. They inspire a high level of clarity getting you clear on why you do what you do, which is key to your success in whatever you are pursuing.
1. What advice do you have for those who are stuck in a standstill? They are unable to move forward with their lives and set themselves free. They are unable to “experience the next level?
Free yourself. Forgive yourself. There is normally some guilt/remorse/fear associated with feeling stuck and not being able to move forward. The way one goes about freeing and forgiving themselves is by really listening to themselves. No sugar coating. Really listen to yourself and get to the root of why it is you are feeling what you are feeling. Do not deny yourself the truth; you deserve a clean slate and a clear conscience. Remember you are not alone. I understand, it can be very hard to reach out for help. All it can take is just sitting with someone and not saying a word. Changing up your daily routing and trying a new activity. What it comes down to essentially YOU deserve this, let it in, step by step.
2. What is your life philosophy?
Life is not meant to be solved. Life is beautiful. Life is what you make of it. Life is a roller coaster ride full of bumps and steady paths. Life is meant to be celebrated. Life is about ambition. Life is about love, sadness, happiness, struggle, success, failure and humbleness. Life is about surrounding yourself with your circle of those you trust. Life is about listening to yourself. Life is about ME time. Life is about family and friends. Life is about challenging yourself. Life is about loving, honoring and cherishing. Life is about treating yourself with the love and respect you deserve. Life is a beautiful pearl.
3. What is your favorite quote and why?
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” – Dr Seuss
I came across this quote a couple of months ago and I fell in love with it. This quote resonates with me because as simple as the quote sounds, it is really hard for others to remember that they are beautiful pearls. We all have so much going on that can at times be demanding, we often forget that we are one a kind. Today and everyday you are YOU. It’s a humble reminder that at the end of the day, we are all just human and being ourselves is that one element we all have in common.
4. How do you do it all? What motivates you?
I have always operated on a natural high. I have always been told that I have lots of energy. I agree with this observation. My natural high stems from life. I am very grateful for all of the opportunities that I have been graced with. Life is what motivates me. People are what motivate me. Energy is what motivates me.
I think the phrase, how does one get it all done, is more of a mindset; mind over matter. I do not necessarily see it as, I need get everything done. I see it as what will I get done today. If I am unable to do it all today, there is always another day.
All of the love, support and kind words I have received from so many people. When someone contacts me to tell me that, what they have read has been able to get them through a difficult situation. Really touches my soul. I spend so much time working on the site, when you hear something like that, it makes the experience not only your own but a journey you are all on together. I am privileged to share this journey with so many. Yesterday someone emailed me and shared with me that their mother just passed and one of my posts were very encouraging. To know that the simple act of writing can help someone’s pain subside for just a couple of minutes is an honor as well as powerful
6. What do you do during your ME time?
During my ME time, I engage in activities that I love. I read, go to the spa, listen to music (Maroon 5 and Salsa music), shop, beach, write, travel. My list can go and on. For instance every morning before work I sit in the park and listen to music for 15 minutes. One of the favorite parts of my day.
7. Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?
One of my favorite quotes about life is from Lauryn Hill, "We can't plan life. All we can do is be available for it." Although I cannot plan what I will be doing in the next 3-5 years, I foresee that I will continue to have my website/blog as well as reaching out and connecting with more people. I would have a book out and go on a book tour. Make documentary films about life, education and whatever else inspires me. There is no such thing as I can’t. All I see is, I can, and I am excited to see how far this roller coaster of what we call life will take me!
8. What is one piece of advice that you were given in which you hold close and follow?
One piece of advice that I was given is from my mother, which is to not sweat the small stuff. My mother is one of the calmest people you’ll ever meet. She lives what she practices. After knowing me for some time, I constantly get the same reaction from others, that I am so calm. I really try to live in the moment, love my life and will not allow negativity energy to tarnish it. Of course realistically this is not always possible but the way I process it, has a lot to do with my mother’s words of advice.
9. What inspires you?
What inspires me is LOVE. Knowing that there are so many caring and loving people out there in the world really touches my soul. I am not only referring to romantic love, I am referring to all types of love. It is one of our human emotions that fascinate me. All you need is love right?
